Enjoy the PICTURES of Sis. Meddow/us in front of a meadow in north Georgia...oh, the Appalachains!
Heavenly Father is blessing us to be able to have more lessons taught to investigators with members present--which is a huge blessing. It's been tough in the past because members of the branch are spread all over 3 1/2 counties (and we only work in one of the counties) but this week we passed a sign-up sheet around the Priesthood mtgs. and people actually signed-up! Miracle. It is amazing how much better lessons to investigators tend to go when there is at least one member there. The member's experiences/conversion story/testimony add great depth and validity to the message that we get to share.
Yesterday we got to teach Billy Townsend (68 yrs old, 5'5", moustache, silvery, slicked-back wavy hair, THICK southern drawl) the plan of salvation in Sis. Pardee's home with the Baileys there as well as Sis. Pardee. The Spirit bore a powerful witness of the truth of the message, and the comments/testimonies by the three members greatly enriched the lesson. We met him about 2 1/2 months ago and have been meeting with him regularly for about 1 1/2 months. He started at the beginning of the Book of Mormon and was in Helaman 3 yesterday! Wow. He loves it. Although he has come to church twice (and even stayed for all three meetings this week with a little persuasion :) and is feeling good, when we asked him yesterday about baptism (we had set the date with him for the 21st which is this coming Sunday) he said he doesn't feel ready. I feel confident that he can feel ready soon, though.
Kenya came to church too and is still doing well. I wish I knew what we could do to help her progress more...She seems to be in somewhat of a stalemate. She keeps her commitments but is hesitant about baptism
Sis. Meddow and I continue to get along famously well. Although we naturally have other weaknesses, it is a great blessing that we do not have to work at loving each other. She has experienced many trials in her life yet remains a strong, cheerful woman. One of the tragedies occurred right before she was supposed to leave on her mission when her step-father was killed in the store that he and her mother owned. Despite the grief and uncertainty that this has caused her family (her mother is struggling now financially) she still chose to come. I admire her great strength of character. I love this little Jamaican!
Love,
Sister Mitchell
P.S. David (Tanner)--Are you SURE that you chose the right school? :) Just joking!
